The colour blue seems to have every type of emotion connected to it...it can be calming yet evocative of sadness.
In Iran it's the colour of mourning whereas in the West wearing something blue is a bridal tradition used to represent love.
In France during the 19th Century blue became fashionable to wear among artists and the general public. Not that this was the influence on Picasso's Blue Period, during which he demonstrated his own melancholy through a series of sentimental and sombre paintings.
I didn't intend to look too deeply into the background of a colour but it's actually quite interesting! And on a lighter note, it definitely has the best shade names...
Azure, Cerulean, Cornflower, Cobalt, Prussian
I'm partial to a bit of Yves Klein Blue, or IKB as it's officially known (although it doesn't quite have the same ring to it does it?)
Painting in my light and airy studio, nipping out in the sunshine to get a cup of coffee and wandering back, baguette and fresh fruit in my straw market bag. A little far fetched, I know but I can dream.
This is how I imagine myself spending the day in my Margaret Howell wares. Every season I covet her collections, understated, classic and the essence of good British design. There's something serene and calm about her designs as well as the androgynous edge that I love.
I can't say I've ever been inspired by photographs of soap before but I have to hand it to Toast, they look like lovely blocks of jelly (which, by the way, is the best way to eat jelly...in cubes and raw)
Hurrah! It looks like yellow will be making lots of appearances next Spring. Seeing as the UK Summer seems to last no more than a week it will be nice to have a little sunshine around.

It's officially "back to school weather" which means time to buy coats, knits and lots of chunky scarves. I would like this lovely Miu Miunumber thank you please...

Or crocheting for that matter. From Christopher Kane's cashmere creations to House of Holland's bright photographic prints, it seems granny squares are having their moment.
Personally I've had many failed attempts at knitting and crochet (the hat that ended up the size of a fruit bowl was a particular favourite of mine). I'm thinking maybe a few classes would be fun, just so I could actually make use of all of the pretty yarn I've bought and abandoned in the past.
