I've finally gotten around to sorting images of Fashon Week...is it a bit sad that I enjoyed organising these so much?!

Ooh, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I've spent the last month or so researching ideas for my final year major project and I'm left feeling overwhelmed yet underwhelmed...I've accumulated a wealth of images and inspirations but am still feeling slightly clueless about what I'm actually going to produce. It has to be illustration based but otherwise it's completely up to me what I create. Now my main idea was to create some kind of illustrated catalogue for a shop like Topshop, Selfridges or Liberty. That way I could draw all of the things I hold a passion for; clothing, accessories, jewellery, make up and homewares. However, after trying to contact all of these shops I've been left with no replies...so frustrating! So I'm reaching out to the blog community, does anyone have any links with these or similar companies? All I would want to do is draw the products they sell...nothing more, so on their part it's really no work at all. Some other ideas are still floating around my mind, mainly creating some sort of storybook (possibly based around the themes I mentioned earlier) or trend guide which reads like a childs story for adults. What does everyone think? Any ideas? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that a nice creative director for a shop will get back to me imminently...I think my hopes are too high!

I've never been a particularly big fan of Juicy Couture clothing...it reminds me too much of Paris Hilton, who I don't really hold any aspirations to but I'm really liking some of their jewellery. Yes, it kind of borders the line between tacky and cute but sometimes I like it that way!

A huge thank you to Love Made Visible for introducing me to some of the most stunning jewellery I have ever seen. Judy Geib creates these gorgeous pieces from gold and gemstones...I'm getting strong Klmit vibes from them too. They leave me absolutely breathless!

I'm kind of liking the rock aesthetic happening in fashion right now. Apparently it's all about the revival of grunge and although I can't say I'm a huge devotee of the movement I do like to have what I'd describe as a "messy edge" to the way I dress. I don't think that's always intentional but I don't like to look too polished, probably because I'm not actually capable of it. Actually right now I seem too be stuck in between wanting to dress in quite a prim and proper way (with a twist) or as a bit of a rock star in the making. Hmm, based on these outfits by Stockholm designer J.Lindeberg I'm veering towards the latter.

I did a bit more research into the Japanese sweets I posted about earlier, known as Wagashi. According to the English website (which for some reason I completely bypassed the first time around) "wa" means Japanese and the characters for "gashi" mean confections. According to the website

"One of the greatest fascinations in wagashi is their potential for appealing to much more than just the sense of taste. Wagashi are an invitation to indulge all five senses and to experience a taste of Japan."

I love the idea that they are meant to appeal to every sense, I'm sure it increases the enjoyment of eating. The shapes, colours and designs are apparently influenced by Japanese literature, paintings and textiles creating a real feast for the eyes.

I noticed a post on this special edition Dom Perignon cooler by Marc Newson over at Luxist and it got me thinking about how design can pervade every area of life...I guess that's a given but it just reminded me of how everyday things like drinks bottles can now be "designer items" or even collectables like these limited edition Coke bottles they brought out a couple of years ago (by Manalo Blahnik and Matthew Williamson).


Plus, I spotted this cute Vodka in several magazines a couple of months ago...although there's something about dressing up alcohol as a toy that's probably a little bit off (not that you hear me comlaining, I'd definately have one of those on my shelf!)

And finally, these bottles by Kauffman Vodka just looked so gorgeous, very sculptural and jewellery like for an alcohol bottle don't you think? I think they'd be perfectly paired with the new tumblers by Artel glass, just wonderful!

I don't think serene is really a word you canuse to describe food but I can't think of a more appropriate one for these images. From what I can understand they're some kind of Japanese sweet, they do look nice in a gelatinous kind of way!

Browing around recently I've noticed an abundance of jewellery with messages inscribed upon them which made me think, do yo wear jewellery to portray a certain message...maybe about yourself or just a reminder of how to live day to day. I like to think of it as a little trinket that you glimpse every now and then in a reflection and it's just a like little reminder, a pretty post it note you can wear!

I've been trying to build up my portfolio...starting with these detail drawings from various fashion editorials. Click on the images for more detail!

I found these designs here and am thinking they were made using home made stamps..can anyone recommend the best way to make these? They look so cute, I'd love to somehow incorporate them into my work.

I'm at a loss as to what most of these websites say but there are some beautiful products on them...from what I can understand, they're referred to as "Zakka" which according to Wikipedia "is the term for everything and anything that spruces up your home, life and outlook. It is primarily based on household items from the West that are regarded as kitsch in their countries of origin.
Zakka has also been described as "the art of seeing the savvy in the ordinary and mundane". I love the second description...that's very much how I like to sum up my artwork, I like to draw the little things in life that normally pass people by.
